Since ancient times, Alchemists have been using a wide range of techniques to extract the essential properties of plants in order to concentrate their beneficial and unique characteristics. It was noted that when reduced to their most absolute and elementary form, what generally remained was oil. These oils were found to carry the unique, identifying smell, taste and medicinal qualities of a particular plant.
Essential oil extractions were the basis of medicines for hundreds of years, and continue to play an important role in therapeutic practices worldwide.
Moringaia believes it is time to revisit the importance of using plant essences for their holistic approach to healing. Essential oil based treatments are based on the full spectrum of qualities plants offer, rather than placing trust in an isolated, synthesized and patented versions of the medicine.
Each individual essential oil used in the products, has a unique set of beneficial properties, which include both fragrance and its therapeutic application. Gaia Earth Alchemy pays particular attention obtaining the essential oils to assure only the highest grade of undiluted quality and purity.
Turmeric is a type of ginger plant originating from Southeast Asia. It produces carrot-like roots that have been used for thousands of years for both culinary and therapeutic application.
It is an excellent source for iron, manganese, vitamin B6, dietary fibre, and potassium. It contains bio-active substances that fight inflammation at a molecular level, and contains antioxidants which are able to neutralize free radicals.
This combination of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory makes it a living medicine cabinet, which can help with a great deal of ailments. Through the years, turmeric has been proved very effective for treating acne, healing cuts, burns, dried skin and other serious conditions such as arthritis and cancers.
Moringaia grows turmeric in organic self-circulating aquaculture gardens. When harvested, the roots are dehydrated below 60 degrees C, to assure the highest retention of its therapeutic constituents. This soothing root can be found in many of Moringaia’s salves, creams and balms to restore wellness, reduce redness and inflammation.
Bee-Friendly Bees Wax
It’s all about the Bees! At Moringaia we value the use of only the purest, environmentally friendly ingredients. We do so, in order to sustain and preserve the development of these precious gifts inherited from mother nature.
It is a known fact that Bees are among the most important pollinators on the planet, holding a critical role in sustaining biological life on Earth. They are also famously known for using pollen to create sweet nutritious honey which is a super-food in its pure form.
Bees make use of this honey for several purposes including the production of wax, which they use to build the structural walls of their hive. Pure beeswax contains anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties which keep the hive from contamination. It also posses many healing benefits for human skin and can protect it from damaging environmental effects; healing and minimizing eruption, acne redness and minor rashes.
We take the extra effort to source only the purest beeswax we can find in season, from beehive cultivars practicing environmentally sustainable means of production. We like to use the term bee-friendly beeswax since great attention is given to keep the bee's safe while obtaining it. By buying from cultivars not only do we encourage the creation of more beehives, but we also avoid harming native beehive populations found in the wild which have been disappearing at an alarming rate.
At Moringaia we source our Cacao from Certified Organic sources and process it using cold-pressed procedures assuring to maximize its healing and valuable properties.
The benefits of the cocoa, or the ”Theobroma Cacao Tree” have been known for over 4,000 years. The Aztecs and other ancient tribes in South America used it in various culinary, medicinal and ceremonial preparations. Theobroma literally means "food of the gods" and its respect has continued to present day.
A major part of the admiration for cocoa can be attributed to the rich complex of natural fats, vitamins and minerals identified in the Cacao bean. These include caffeine, theobromine, calcium potassium, zinc and Vitamin E. It is no wonder that Cacao is considered among the worlds top Superfoods.
Some of the benefits for the skin include:
• Healthy Moisturizer.
• Provides a natural lustrous glow.
• Promotes collagen production for tighter skin.
• Prevents blemishes.
• Reduces stretch marks.
• Diminishes Cellulite.
When it comes to skincare, cacao can be used for various treatments, delivering its concentrated beneficial properties onto the skin. Caffeine and Theobromine are able to break down fats, which is the key factors in Cacao’s ability to firm the skin. Its antioxidant content offers fantastic anti-ageing properties and helps to keep the skin healthy and young looking.
The antioxidants provide an added bonus by preventing cocoa butter from going rancid quickly. It can stay fresh for 2-5 years if stored correctly.
Wild Harvested Coconut
The coconuts used for our "Caribbean Breeze: Wild-Harvested Coconut Scrub" come from the tropical coastlines of Dominican Republic, where these trees act as windbreakers during hurricane season and preserve the sand on the shores from being eroded.
Whether ingested or applied topically, coconut is great for your body. It is rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, copper, iron and natural proteins, which can contribute greatly to the creation of a smooth and healthy radiance.
The natural fatty acids in coconut can help treat dry irritated skin removing harmful bacteria on the skin. It reduces redness, restoring adequate moisture levels, and soothing negative symptoms of psoriasis, dermatitis and eczema. Additionally it can be used to treat sunburns and contains anti-aging properties that enhance the elasticity of the skin, preventing wrinkles, sagging and age spots.
We only use mature coconuts, which have fully ripened on the tree in order to get the most dense and high oil content from the coconut.
Caribean Sea Salt
Evolutionary theory states that life on Earth first emerged in the Oceans. The human being is made up of about 70% water, as well as the Earths surface. Our bodies contain the same concentration of minerals and nutrients as seawater. This precious resource has circulated across the Earth for millions of years.
It is no surprise that sea salt is able to balance, protect, and restore the body and skin. It is rich in minerals, including magnesium, calcium, sodium, and potassium, all of which play a key role in our skin's health, function, and cellular activity.
As an exfoliating medium, salt helps absorb toxins from the skin and remove dead skin cells, clearing and disinfecting the pores. This antiseptic effect can help treat and prevent breakouts while leaving the skin soft and smooth.
Moringaia sources its salt from Montecristi, located on the northwestern coast of Dominican Republic. Montecristi has landmass that reaches below ocean level were formations of salt are naturally created, being among the first salt production facilities in the New World.
